Ella Bridges came to 'sleuthing' quite by accident. Forced to move after the death of her husband, she bought a cottage on the island of Linhay, a place she had fallen in love with during her childhood holidays. Unbeknownst to her the cottage came with a legacy, a highly unusual gift passed on to those who take ownership, in addition to a rather special cat. Not long after moving in, Ella is thrust into her first case, "An Accidental Murder," and her life as an amateur detective begins.
Jerry is Ella's younger sibling and a writer. An Oxford graduate he turned his back on the business world for which he'd studied, in pursuit of his dream to become a successful novelist. He is a loving brother and protective of his widowed sister. He has an excellent sense of humour and loves a practical joke, of which Ella, more often than not is on the receiving end. He is very happily married to Ginny.
Virginia ("Ginny") Bridges
Ginny is the only daughter of minor aristocracy. A London socialite, she met and fell in love with Ella's brother Jerry and supported him while he pursued his dream of writing. She dearly loves her sister-in-law and adores helping with her mysteries. Although bright, captivating, charming and generous to a fault, she is easily distracted and somewhat oblivious to the real world.
Sir Albert Montesford
Sir Albert is the current Police Commissioner with Scotland yard, and although not a blood relative, Ginny's Godfather. A former lawyer he is shrewd and clever, and with a sense of fair play as large as his appetite. He doesn't suffer fools gladly but will help those less fortunate if they will help themselves. He admires Ella tremendously and sees in her a calm intellect coupled with keen observation, skills which he intends to call upon in the future.
When Ella first purchased the yellow cottage it came with a rather special tenant, a cat she later called Phantom. Phantom not only aids her quests, but is instrumental in bringing to her those who need her help, acting as a gateway between the two worlds.
